Gallup Trails 2010 Annual Party

Recent site activity

Howdy,

I had to drop a line to tell you how much fun a riding partner and I had on your trails this past weekend.  We did Quaking Aspen with the new loop(I think) at the top and the High Desert System.  Wow, Gallup is happening.  We usually go to Moab, but I guarantee we'll be back with more friends and $ for your area.  Why not?  The trails rock, and we rode 15 miles of the High Desert and drove home in the time it take to drive from Moab.  Thanks for putting in the time/effort with your group.

Gallup Area Trails INFO

High Desert Trails System

A narrow, single track mountain biking trail,  the High Desert Trail System provides a variety of terrain with the least technical beginning at the East Trail. Three loops off of the trail - First Mesa, Second Mesa, and Third Mesa - increase in technical difficultly of terrain. Map/signs are posted at all intersection

Zuni Mountains

McGaffey District

Just east of Gallup are the Zuni Mountains and the McGaffey Recreation Area. The Quaking Aspen Trail Head at mile 7.5 on NM 400 is the gateway to some 26 miles of newly designated mtb and hiking trails, as well as many miles of traditional trails. Map/Signs are posted at all intersections on designated trails. These trails are normally under snow or saturated with spring melt from December through April. The snow is very deep this winter! We will post here when the trails are dry enough to ride in Spring of 2010.

          Twin Springs Area

This area is about 18 miles farther into the Zuni Mountains and is a collection of existing primitive singletracks, logging railroad corridors, and two track Forest Roads. These are unimproved routes with no signs. The meadow in the aspens on the right (west) side of FR50 is a favorite camping spot for mtbers, the Aspen Corridor singletrack starts on the left (east) side of the road. These trails are normally under snow or saturated with spring melt  from December thru April. The snow is very deep this winter! We will post here when the trails are dry enough to ride in Spring of 2010.
