Gallup Trails 2010 Annual Party

Howdy,

I had to drop a line to tell you how much fun a riding partner and I had on your trails this past weekend.  We did Quaking Aspen with the new loop(I think) at the top and the High Desert System.  Wow, Gallup is happening.  We usually go to Moab, but I guarantee we'll be back with more friends and $ for your area.  Why not?  The trails rock, and we rode 15 miles of the High Desert and drove home in the time it take to drive from Moab.  Thanks for putting in the time/effort with your group.

Join us for a weekend of fun in the beautiful Zuni Mountains for our annual member appreciation party.

Featuring the 2010 NMES Zuni Mountain 100 Endurance Race on Saturday, October 16 @ 7:00 am start with
an additional 9:30 am start for 50 milers.

Annual Dinner featuring a pit cooked Yucatecan Pig Dinner with fixings (also brisket and turkey) as well
as Vegetarian Posole.

Annual Brewing Contest open to all brewers, nifty handmade iron mug trophy for best brew.

The fun starts Friday evening with camping and informal socializing at the clubhouse. Racers will be arriving
throughout the evening and night.

Pit barbecue fire crew gets the fire started at 4:00 am Saturday morning, racers start departing at 7:00 am,
the rest of us get up at a more decent hour and gather to drink coffee and breakfast at the arched metal quonset hut kitchen. Later we will go for bike rides, hikes, perhaps catch the rise at McGaffey Lake, pitch horseshoes, or just hang out. Local musicians will kick off the music in the afternoon on the back porch and entertain until 6:00 pm, when the evening festivities kick off with dinner, a short meeting to review who we are and where we're going, then the home brew contest and live music and dancing 'til way late.

See you at the quonset hut for coffee and continental/pot luck breakfast on Sunday morning, after which we wind things down, say goodbye til next year, and head off for home. We have reserved the facility for an extra day this year, so no hurry to leave on Sunday.

Featuring genuine pit cooked pork, brisket, and turkey, as well as vegetarian posole. The
meat goes in at the start of the race, about 7 am and cooks until 6 pm.

Master Pitman Michael Schmaltz and Bill Siebersma tuck in the barbecue pit for a 10 hour nap.
